Cubby Questions

Dorm Decor doesn't deliver cubbies to my school.  Can I ship it to my college?

Dorm Decor ships cubbies nationwide.  You will need to contact your school's mailroom and make sure they will receive the cubby.  Bed and desk cubbies are freighted on wooden pallets.  The box sizes

bed cubby box: 46"W x 46"H x 17"D

desk cubby box: 47"W x 45"H x 15"D

You will need to give us your contact information as well as the college mailroom contact and delivery address.

My school mailroom cannot except delivery of the cubby.  Can I have it shipped to my home?

Yes, Dorm decor can ship a cubby to your home via freight.  The standard freight shipping charge is $75 which will be added to your cart at checkout.  We ship anywhere in the continental US, but depending on the location and distance, there could be additional freight charges.  Dorm Decor will contact you before proceeding with the order if there are additional freight charges.

Once your cubby has been picked up by our freight service, we can send you a confirmation of the Freight Company, pickup date, and estimated delivery date.  When the cubby has reached the terminal in your town, the freight company will contact you to set up a firm delivery date and time for you to accept your cubby.

Before accepting delivery, please ensure that there are no visible signs of damage to the box.

Can I pick up my cubby at the Dorm decor showroom/warehouse in Birmingham?

We allow pickup of deck cubbies at our Birmingham location.  However the bed cubbies are too large and heavy for Dorm Decor to stock.  They are freighted directly to you from our manufacturer.

If yo choose to pick up the desk cubby in Birmingham you are required to pay state and local taxes but there will be no delivery fee.  You need to ensure, choosing the pickup option, that your vehicle is large enough to accommodate the 47"W x 45"H x 15"D cubby box.

Is there a cutoff date for ordering cubbies and having them delivered?

Yes, the cutoff date for each type of delivery will be posted on the item page, so PLEASE order early in the season!  We cannot guarantee that cubbies will be available after the posted date.

The cutoff date for purchasing cubbies for delivery to one of our Alabama schools is:

University of Alabama:   August 1

Auburn University:   August 1

Samford:   August 10

Birmingham Southern:   August 10

How can I track progress of a shipped cubby?

Bedside and bedrail cubbies are shipped FedEx from our Birmingham location.  You should receive an email with the FedEx tracking information once the item has shipped.

Desk and bed cubbies are freight delivered.  Once your cubby has been picked up by our freight service, we can send you a confirmation of the Freight Company, pickup date, and estimated delivery date.  The freight company will contact you to set up a firm delivery date and time for you to accept your cubby.

If I am attending one of the 4 Alabama schools, when will my cubby or cubbies be installed?

Dorm Decor works with a moving service to deliver, setup and install the cubbies at UA, AU, Samford and BSC.  This date will precede your move-in.  When you arrive your cubby should be in your room and ready to go!

Does Dorm Decor rent cubbies or buy back cubbies at the end of the school year?

No, Dorm Decor does not have a rental or buyback service.

How can I be sure that my cubby will fit in my college dorm room?

Most colleges post dorm room layouts and measurements on their websites so that you can verify.  there are some schools that have cubbies already over the desks in which case one of our desk cubbies would not be a good purchase.

Cubby measurements:

Bed cubby: 86"H x 43"W x 14"D

Desk cubby: 43"h x 38.25"W x 12"D

We have run into a few isolated cases (e.g. the curved rooms in UA's Tutwiler) where the bed cubbies will not fit well.

If you cannot determine the fit, please call our office and we will try to help you ensure that your purchases will work and be effective. The customer is responsible for determining if purchased products will fit and can be delivered to their room of choice by verifying building access and room measurements.

Why are the delivery charges different than the freight charges?

We partner with a moving company to install the units in the dorm rooms.  This is a great arrangement for the customer because we are able to get a lower moving rate and the cubby will be in your room, installed, when you arrive at school.  However we are limited in the schools were we can offer delivery and setup.

I ordered a mirror and corkboard for my desk cubby.  Why have these been delivered to my home instead of with my cubby to school?

The light and cork board will be delivered to you directly to avoid any damage or breakage.  Both items have been modified to include heavy duty Velcro for easily attaching to the cubby.  The instructions are on the cubby page of the website.

 

General Questions

How do I place an order?

Our products can be ordered through our website, www.dorm-decor.com, by telephone at 888-874-8778 or at our showroom - 3105 7th Avenue S. in Birmingham.  Showroom hours, which can be found on the website, will vary depending on the season.

As a courtesy to our customers, Dorm Decor is happy to enter draft orders taken over the phone or at a showroom appointment.

We do our very best to enter all information accurately, however, it is the responsibility of the customer to review
the order and make sure it is correct. By placing the order you are confirming that it is correct. Please be sure
to check and verify monograms, fabrics etc.

 

What form of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. We also have a PayPal link. Dorm-Decor charges applicable sales taxes to all residents in Alabama. If you are ordering outside the state of Alabama, no sales tax will be charged.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Once an order has been placed, we can usually change or cancel your order within 24 hours. Please e-mail us at info@dorm-décor.com or call us at 888-874-8778.

Can I return my items?

We want you to be a raving fan of Dorm Decor and want you to love your dorm room. We will happily allow returns of non-custom items. Returns can only be made by shipping your items back to Dorm Decor within 14 days of receipt of your items. We will exchange or give you store credit for any new, unused, and unwashed item. Sale items are not eligible for exchanges or returns. All custom items and monogram items are not returnable.

Please call Dorm Decor at 888-874-8778 to receive a Return Authorization Number. Please return your items in the original packaging and box. We suggest when purchasing your return postage, that you also purchase insurance and to keep your postage receipt with your tracking information.  Only items received in our warehouse will be credited for an exchange or store credit. Dorm Decor does not offer price adjustments on items previously purchased.

Do you offer Fabric Swatches?

Yes, swatches can be ordered on our website for $1 per swatch.  Please note that some of our products are not available in all of our fabrics.  

 

Shipping Questions

 

Can I ship my order directly to my dorm room?

DormDecor cannot ship an order directly to a dorm room, but we can deliver orders to mailrooms at many colleges and universities. 

Please check with your school’s shipping policy and check the ship to address and instructions carefully and if your school accepts packages, you can enter its delivery address in your order.

When will my order arrive?

Although we usually ship much quicker, please allow 14-21 days for your items to ship. We don’t anticipate delays, but in the rare case that an item is backordered, we will notify you immediately!
